Who’s got Ovid tattooed on their tummy? Who has the Song of Songs down their spine? And whose tribute to her mother is in bad French?

Ross BarkleyNo doubt his mind is firmly on the rigours of the World Cup challenge ahead.

So perhaps that’s why England footballer Ross Barkley has got himself a rather inspiring tattoo.

Quoting Aristotle, it reads: ‘No notice is taken of little evil, when it increases it strikes the eye.’

And he’s not alone.

Other celebrities have similarly profound quotation tattoos — be they sayings from Confucius, lines of poetry, great chunks of the Bible and even an excerpt from a speech by Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th U.S. president.

So — with the help of some background information from Alison Boshoff — can you match the rather unlikely celebrity to the tattoo?

Tattoo artist Dongkyu Lee created the most amazing portrait tattoo we’ve ever seen, replicating a photo of Kobe Bryant on someone’s leg. The finished tattoo might even look better than reality.

Julia Roberts Explains Her Tattoos.

Julia Roberts tattoos46-year-old Julia Roberts recently told Ellen DeGeneres that she has four tattoos, which consist of the names of her three children as well as her husband’s initials.

“Aren’t you just rethinking me completely now?” Roberts asked after revealing the fact she has ink.

“Some things I can tell you the answer to, and some things I’ll tell you later,” she said when Ellen asked about their locations.

Roberts added that she had husband Danny Moder’s initials tattooed before their marriage in 2002. “We were brave or idiotic,” Roberts said.

Buzzfeed’s 40-Top-Models-With-Fashionable-Tattoos article ‘illustrates’ just how far the fashion world has come in terms of embracing body art as an expression of mainstream popular culture in the past two decades.  It was in the early 90’s that supermodels first began to sport tattoos, small and discrete at first, sported by the likes of Christy Turlington, Stephanie Seymour and Kate Moss.  One can’t help but surmise that these lovely ladies might have been influenced to embrace body art as a result of their exposure to the ‘bad boys’ they were dating at the time, Vince Neil of Motley Crue for Turlington, Seymour snuggling up to Axl Rose of Guns and Roses, and of course Kate Moss and Johnny Depp were the original Brangelina.

Miles Langford Lavin tattooNow, twenty years on, the tattoos are big and bold, and in the case of male models, they wouldn’t look out of place if they were fronting rock bands in the biggest stadiums in the world.  This is not body art that is tucked away, but tattoos meant to be seen.  It doesn’t hurt that the artwork is displayed on some of the most genetically blessed canvas to ever adorn the human race.  Enjoy!

Celebrity Ink.  That’s right.  “Celebrity Tattoos” is far and away one of the most popular tattoo search terms on the internet. We search for it, talk about it, compile lists of the “Best”, and “Worst” and “Latest” of the body art of the famous, not-so-famous, and the infamous.  Whether you’re beautiful, or notorious, an athlete or a musician, if you’re in the public eye and you have even the slightest amount of body art, people are going to search for images of it on the Internet.  And if you’re in the headlines, whether it’s it on the red carpet, arrested, in a police line-up, headed for or been released from rehab, died too soon, had a public meltdown or had your heart broken by another celebrity, then searches about you and your tattoos are going to spike.  Didn’t believe me when I said that I see dead people’s tattoos?  People still search for the tattoos of Anna Nicole Smith, Tupac and Amy Winehouse.  A lot…  Cue scary moaning sound off stage.

In the nineties, and brace yourself for this, Cher was the original Queen of Ink.  She has in turn passed the tattoo torch to Pamela Anderson, to Britney Spears, to Angelina Jolie, to Meagan Fox and now the tattoo “It” girl for 2013 is not hard to guess. But let’s enjoy the count down… At number ten is…

# 10. Lucy Lui

Lucy LiuActress Lucy Lui has been a staple on lists of the hot, sexy and beautiful for fifteen years.  From her days on Ally McBeal, to Charlie’s Angels, and Kill Bill, both Volumes, Lui has never been too far from the public eye.  You just won’t see many photos of her lower back, or the tiger tattoo that is said to reside there.  Lui’s latest gig on the small screen has her playing Dr. Watson to Sherlock Holmes on Elementary. The crazy thing is, we’ve never seen an authenticated photograph of the elusive tiger tattoo that apparently roams the nether regions of Liu’s lower back.  A free Tattoo Project coffee table book to the first reader who sends in the photograph!!!
